My original score for the documentary ‘Dragon Mom’ just won Best Original Music at the Swedish International Film Fest!

I just found out that my original score for the documentary ‘Dragon Mom’ won Best Original Music at the most recent edition of the Swedish International Film Festival - I was not expecting this! The film, produced by my friend Harrison Buck, is a beautiful story about a young disabled boy named Alden and his mother, Laura. They face immense challenges, but Alden has a profound connection to adaptive skiing and the natural world, and Laura helps build that connection to open the door to joy and meaning, for the whole family. It is powerful! I worked with Harrison on the score concept, to cover the mood and energy of the visual, ultimately creating 5 distinct pieces specifically for the film. Harrison’s team then edited the music to match the story. The music is unique. There’s no repetitive rhythm to it, but rather broad, sustaining sounds, with emotive banjo lines over top, coming in and out and evolving as the pieces progress. I loved working on this, it was so different! I also love the way it turned out and I’m honored to see that the music was just recognized at the Swedish International Film Festival. The movie should come out this fall, and I’m planning to release the msuic as well, hopefully after the film drops.
